How to repair a hole in the wall around plumbing for a pedestal sink?

I have a small half bath with a pedestal sink. There is an open square hole in the wall around where the drain and water lines are that was never filled in. I have a square of drywall to patch it, but I will have to cut around the holes. How do I do that and attach all of the drywall?

before you fit in the new drywall, place some wood pieces behind the existing drywall so that it's ½ behind the wall, ½ exposed in the hole. screw through the existing drywall on each side to secure. figure out the diameter of your holes (they're pretty standard - look at your local hdwe store to see), then draw and cut holes just a bit bigger. Fit the drywall in, and screw to that wood already in the hole. Once secure, use wall patch to cover screw heads and seams between old and new drywall. This will take some patience, so take it slow! Measure twice, cut once. The more effort you put in, the better the result. Good Luck!

There are special clips to hold drywall patch in place to eliminate adding wood behind.

I don't know how big the hole is, but they do make a compound that you can fill holes with, you might ask someone at Home Depot what its called. After it dries you can sand it and then its ready to paint.

I believe that is the hole isn't too big you can probably buy a ring at the hardware store that will snap around it

that is a pretty big hole, so you will need to cover the hole or patch it, then put a compound or sheet rock mud, then sand and paint, good luck, I know you can do it.

I have 6 inch plaster walls in my 1937 home. Believe it or not, my teenage son decided to do a running somersault onto his bed from the hallway. His size ten feet went through the wall when he hit the bed. He didn't break any bones but the wall was a mess. I repaired the 2 foot (ha!) hole myself. I used to be a cake decorator, so I used my skills to re-plaster the wall. I used screening and tape for plaster walls. I had to do this in several coats and I used real plaster wall compound. Looks great and has held up well for twenty years.

Hi, See if you can make a template using brown paper or card first. Practice will make perfect.
