Updated "Old" Look for This Newer Chest

Pamela Field
by Pamela Field
A friend gave me this chest that had a few problems. I decided to try a few different techniques and make this "newer" chest look old.
After cleaning and removing the knobs, I did repairs and covered it with a chocolate brown paint all over
After it dried, I went over the entire chest with crackle medium before adding a coat of gray chalk paint. Painted the white around the edges, and then added silver leaf to really make the details pop. Sanded and distressed entire chest.
Spray painted the nail head trim and knobs, following up with dry brush white on the knobs before adding them to the chest.
Dark and clear wax was the final coat.

You can see the details in the close up of the crackle and dark wax and how it makes this not-so-old piece look aged and updated at the same time.
