Reclaimed Wood and Steel Decorative Sign

I love turning the old new again. Reclaimed wood is so beautiful because it adds instant texture and color without having to do anything to it. Perfect for this easy to build sign I made for my Christmas mantle. But the best part, this lettering can easily be removed from the steel and so you can change out this sign to use for any or every season.
You can use any old wood to make this sign. Palettes would be beautiful too. I used old 1x4 boards off my parents 20 year old fence. They have lots of texture and a grayed out color. I also make sure to find reclaimed wood with lots of knots or chips, they add great details. If you don't have access to some reclaimed wood, you can always use new wood and distress it and finish it however you like.
I built my sign on top of new 1x3 boards. I wanted the strength of the new boards so I could hang the sign if I want. But they are totally hidden so you don't see any new wood.
Then I secured a piece of galvanized sheet metal to the finished sign with decorative upholstery tacks. Super easy to do and they look amazing!
You can use chalkboard markers to draw out your letters, but I am not so great with hand lettering, so I used my Silhouette cutting machine and cut the letters out of vinyl. Then I added a little dimension with a little shadow of white on the letters with my chalkboard marker. The final look is perfect!

What is your choice of Silhouette Cutting Machines? There are several out there and I would have no idea which one to buy! Thanks!
