Pictures of your space and a little more info would help. What kind of organization are you looking for? Closet, storage outside of the closet, arranging furniture, etc. But without that info, here are some things I have learned from moving and redoing many homes. Don't waste money on matching bedroom sets. Decide where you will place the bed and then hunt thrift stores, Goodwill, & garage sales for the largest chests that will fit your space & serve as nightstands. I use an antique lady's makeup desk (the kind with the center that lifts up to reveal a mirror) as a nightstand .It holds all of my jewelry. Every piece in my bedroom is from a different source. I painted all the pieces the same color and painted all the knobs with an accent color. Now it looks cohesive. The mirror above my chest of drawers has a plastic frame that has a beautiful shape and detail. Painted to match the knobs on my furniture, it know looks like wood. If your closet doors open out, use them to mount purse hangers or clear shoe bags to hold scarves, socks, pantihose--anything. Put shelves above your doorways to hold books or baskets and rolling plastic containers or just plastic zippered bags under your bed to store seldom used or out of season items. There are so many other ways to add storage. Search this site and Pinterest for more great ideas. Best of luck.

debi53 asked questions that I would have asked. What is your goal? Declutter? Fresh new look? With little cost, paint and new bedding can make your room look new for less than a $100.

Totally agree with debi above,,, if I had to do it over,, would buy used over new,, but the best advise I ever got for organizing is " like objects with like objects",,,, if it is for clothes, etc. I use shoeboxes etc. in my drawers for my "unmentionables",, lol (keeping with the vintage chic that's crazing right now,, lol). In the closets, I keep colours together, rather than skirts with skirts sort of thing,, that works for me.. I try and hang everything if I can, rather than in drawers, that way I can see what I have. Again,, like debi said,,, place bed first (it's also easier to make bed if you can access all 3 sides) try not to push side up against wall. Live with your room for a while, and you'll get the hang of where you need things, and keep coming back here,,, great organization tips etc. Good Luck and Merry Christmas from Vancouver !!! O Ya,, one more tip from my Grandma,,, "A place for everything, and everything in it's place". An oldie,, but a goodie.

totally agree - also remember that bed might be able to have some space for storage underneath and declutter, declutter, declutter. If you haven't worn anything for a year someone else should have it. If it's poor quality and you don't really like it, someone else should have it. If you have things that don't suit your eyes, someone else should have it. Good luck!

Hi Shelby. What types of items, bulky quilts, seasonal clothing, shoes.... Would be helpful. One storage space I use is homemade drawers on wheels under my bed. I keep the heavier, most often used, at the sides where we get into the bed. Seasonal things I store at the foot, behind the sofa at the foot of the bed. I hope these help. Merry Christmas!

Hello, Shelby Storage is important for all different items from shoes to seasonal clothing.mid suggest under-the-bed containers and making good use of closet space. Many closets have dead space above shelves so don't overlook that area. Also, behind the door (if the closet doors swing open) or inside the closet ...use hooks and multiple hanging options for jackets, robes, purses etc. no need to buy fancy closet organizers, simple short bookshelves (for shoes) and drawer units or baskets are readily available at Target for a fraction of the cost

Good tips. I particularly make use of under-the-bed storage of 54-60" wide X 72" length!! Like the beds with the built-in bottom drawers. My closet baseboards are hight so I added a board of top to run the width of the closet for extra shoe storage. There's usually enough room at back of the closet to add some hooks for flat items like belts, costume jewellery. Spe/cial hangers are available for ties, scarves. There are also hangers for hanging several blouses/sweaters/pants which takes up much less room than putting them on individual hangers. Friend took the legs off her dresser and bureau. Then mounted the bureau on top of the dresser with a long mirror on the other side to save floor space. Looked good..

Good ideas from everybody here. There was a great article on HomeTalk about organizing your home http://www.hometalk.com/diy/rules-for-organized-home-11813773 You may want to adopt some of the ideas to your bedroom. Also, if you own a lot of scarves try this (see picture). You may also see this organization idea for dresser drawers http://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/furniture/organizing-the-dresser-drawers-2825959 Before you do anything, though, declutter. Give away or throw away things you no longer use. If you think you may need it one of these days, I can tell from experience, you probably won't.
