Think you’re stuck with your rental kitchen the way it is and that you can’t do anything to change it? This rental kitchen remodel will change your mind! I had a $500 budget to inject some fun and personality in a generic rental kitchen and to make it more functional to prepare meals.
In my last house, I painted my kitchen white and shared a tutorial on the best way to paint kitchen cabinets. And I still stand by that tutorial! But, I've also found an easier way that I love and thought I'd share it with you today.
I love all things Spring, especially gazing balls! Florida really does have seasons, albeit not the four commonly known to the rest of the world. For us SW Floridians it's a brief but great time of year between our seasons: blistering heat, torrential rain, hurricane/mosquito and tourist season. For the past few years I've fought the urge to purchase a gazing ball, in part due to price in part because I don't want to clean up glass if it shatters into smithereens. I decided I would make one, but wasn't sure just how I wanted to concur that and then, it struck me!I've have several packages of air dry clay in my closet for months, purchased for a something I just had to do, but.... I didn't get around to it & now it doesn't seem important. Then a few weeks ago, WHAMO like a ton of bricks the idea for my gazing ball struck me!
We have a large wall by our backyard patio for which we need large wall art. And, I mean LARGE! Last week, I gave our front porch swing a mini-makeover. We are loving our new front porch sanctuary and are now turning attention to the back patio. Time to add some “zing!” to the back as we did to the front. (See last week’s porch swing makeover here.)
If you rent, you know there are limited with options at times to make a space your own. If you happen to hate your kitchen cabinets, but can't paint or replace them, this may be an option for you! My cabinets weren't all that bad, just your standard simple oak, but I thought I would test this out and share my results. With the fabric of your choice you can "paint" your rental cabinets to customize your space! We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.
I recently acquired an end table from my mother-in-law's home. It was from my husband's father's mother. The end table was in the garage collecting dust for years since she passed in the early 2000s. It was unique in style and had many decorative accents that I thought would be a great DIY chalk paint project I could try with Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue chalk paint. Check out how I updated this old and not loved piece.
It's spring and I'm eager to work in my flower beds!! One of the projects on my to do list is to make a trellis for my Rose bush to climb on. Every year my Rose bush produces long runs and they always end up going behind the deck or up the foundation headed for the siding.I normally end up cutting the runs off and its a never ending cycle all summer long. So this year I will be able to use my new trellis and hopefully enjoy more blooms! This trellis also would be amazing for a veggie garden as well!
Last year, hubby cut down a medium sized tree in our yard. Thankfully, I had him save some branches for possible future projects, so this wood has been drying out for quite awhile now (you want dry wood for this project). We ended up redoing our little front porch and painting our front door, so I wanted a new wreath to go with the new look. That's when we thought to chop up that old wood and make a wreath! Best part about this wreath is that it's a perfect year round decor piece! You can decorate it for each holiday/season!Here's how we made it ....*Price is based off of the cost of the glue since we already had the circular saw, cardboard came from a box that was shipped to me, and wood came from our yard, so those items cost nothing. If you don't have a circular saw, you can use a jigsaw, chainsaw, handsaw, but those tools will either take longer or not give perfect straight cuts. We do recommend any diy'er to invest in a circular saw since it is used for so many different projects
I make lots of DIY signs for my home. But when you are squeezed for wall space, it's really nice if those signs can actually DO something other than just look pretty, am I right? In some cases, I'll create signs on top of bulletin boards because that's useful! Or add hooks to hang things. But this round, I wanted to create a way to hide some woodworking tools in the kitchen behind some art...Here's the pretty fix, that's MUCH more productive!
They must have been MASSIVELY mass produced. These lovely cut glass luncheon plates with matching cups were, at one time, the standard for serving “a light lunch” at baby showers, wedding showers, church meetings, bridge clubs and other hosted “Ladies who Lunch” events.
Ya’ll! I didn’t think some black spray paint could make a girl so happy, but man! I LOVE the way my windows look now!! All it took was some tape and a can of black spray paint! Taping is the worst part because I’m so impatient and just want to get going to the fun stuff - just me? All of the prep work is worth it in the end but I always want to rush through it so that I can move on to the real part of the project!

I had this armoire in my one bedroom at the cabin and the brown was not working. It had been years and I was putting it off. Call it lazy, or just not inspired, but either way I didn't want to tackle it till now.I'm so glad I did!First step that everyone knows, wash it down and prepare for sanding.
For me, summer is all about sitting on the floor. I basically exist within 3 feet off the ground for a few months. It's so much more natural and comfortable when it’s hot than sitting in chairs and outdoor sofas! You can sit up, you can recline, you can lounge, you’re FREE! With this DIY floor pillow idea, you will get your entire party something to sit on in no time (and barely any money!).Find the detailed step-by-step here!
Have you struggled to find the best method to clean your glass mirrors and windows without streaking?I have a simple solution for you.IT IS TRULY THE BEST SOLUTION!Our patios get filthy from the construction constantly happening on the property. In order to keep the patios clean, I often need to hose the dirt off the flagstone. This leaves me with water droplets and dirt covered doors and glass. The cleaning solution I use quickly brings all the glass and mirrors back to perfection.Supplies2 cups water1/4 cup white vinegar1/4 cup rubbing alcohol1 T corn starchSpray bottleSeveral lint free microfiber clothsDirectionsPlace all of the ingredients in a spray bottle.Shake well.Remove any heavy dirt or grime off the windows using water (especially if outside) so that you don’t have to change out your dirty cloths as much.Next, spray the windows liberally with the mixture in the spray bottle.Using a lint free cloth, wipe the windows down.If the cloth becomes dirty, switch to a clean cloth.Allow your glass surfaces/windows/doors to dry.Your glass and windows will be the cleanest they have ever been. You probably have all of these supplies already on hand. After you use my method to clean your mirrors and windows one time, I highly doubt you will ever buy another bottle of Windex again.

I’m so in love with my new seating area on my patio. In fact, I’m sitting out here now, enjoying the shade from my giant maple tree and listening to the birds singing all around me. My neighbors on the other side of my fence have a cedar privacy hedge and the birds just love to sit in the cedars and sing their little hearts out.I wanted to share a simple little craft that I just made for out here on my patio and what better place to write about it than on the patio, looking at the crafts I made!
Stenciling a Floor sounds like a great idea, right? It's easy, super affordable compared to new flooring and relatively durable (if you do it right). What could possibly go wrong? Our house was built in 1997 and as such the tile flooring screams 90's! After scrolling Pinterest (where else are great ideas born?) I decided to take the plunge and paint the bathroom floors. But I wanted to do it the right way, so I purchased the rustoleum kit and supplies. After a week of procrastinating I got my painting clothes on, played Netflix on my phone and went to work.
