Decorating winter ideas after the holiday glitter is gone?

The garlands and mercury glasses are away. Does anyone have ideas for winter decor?

Houseplants, vases with natural trimmings,glass marbles that have color,silk flowers,these are just some that I can think of. Stop into michaels as they always have new decorationg ideas for the drabs of winter.

Here are some ideas to add a little bit of sparkle to your home for the winter: Put a few silver/gold ornaments that were your favorite from your tree (not in Christmas colors) in a large glass container, candles with a nice calming scent, a little bit of greenery will help cheer up the drabness of winter

Barbara I keep my greenery up after the other decorations are out away for the season. I like a little dash of red here and there. I also like Mercury glass votive candle holders. For years I have collected vintage postcards and I enjoy changing those out in frames, too.

I utilize some of my greenery from Christmas. I like using baskets and glass cylinder vases with snow, pine cones and greenery. I also like using white candles in glass vessels with the snow. For valentines day, I use candy canes in various sizes, hot gluing them into heart shapes. These I use on the mantel and wreaths. An inexpensive, decorative addition.

I use snowflakes this time of year. Lots of white, sand, candles and snowflakes. I also keep my greenery out to add some touches of freshness. They don't need the red ribbons until Valentines day. Grow some paperwhites to add a little fun and happiness inside. Another thing I do is start growing seeds for the garden and get my herbs in shape to go outside in the spring. It all adds some freshness and fun. No one says you can't use the mercury glass, golds, whites and silvers over the winter. Enjoy it!!!!

Garlands made with Snowflakes ( Card stock or paper cut outs) or Mittens or fake white Poinsettia Flowers, Snowmen/ladies are always cute, Polar Bears, Ski and Winter sport items in a Display etc... Check out unusual Holidays on line for some ideas, of Course in February its Valentine Time....

Greenery never goes out of style (unless it's April). Pretty candles and a few sparkly pine cones never hurt any winter decor in my book. Maybe a nice white/cream color throw to cozy it all up.

I keep out any decoration that isnt Christmas related. So mercury glass, white candles and even white lights here and there. Decorate the porch or buffet with snowmen or signs about snow or cold.

I leave out any snowman decor that does not have Christmas colors or decor... sometimes my small trees too! I have a few snowmen that are tea stained.. I leave white lights up indoors (and on the porch) all year long...I use grapevine wreaths with no decor attached hung around the house, and add anything I have that may look "wintery"... I leave these up until valentines, then put the snowmen away and replace them with valentine decor or colors...I have umbrage past even left a bit of green garland... not everyone gets it, but it makes me happy! I have to explain sometimes that, no, I didn't leave Christmas up! this is winter! oh and pine cones!!! lots of pine cones and candles!!

Anything from Christmas that has red and white could be used right up until Valentines Day. I have an artificial Apple and greenery tree shaped like a Christmas tree, but I just change the "Christmas" ribbons and add red and white check ribbons as accents. It works great as a centerpiece.

I use fake trees and decorate with fake snow, birds and pine cones. Since you live in a a climate that sees snow usually create a scene like that in and around your home. There are many ways to create fake snow so you don't have to buy it. If you have batting that is used for stuffing items like pillows and stuffed animals it also works as snow. get a cardinal in there somewhere for a splash of color.
