Do you mean hosta garden, Sandr? I'm surprised to hear you have one in Winter Haven, as Florida is not exactly friendly territory for hostas. But, the old home remedy for slugs is beer set out in a saucer. Sluggo and Escar-Go are two bait products you can use without fear of hurting your pets or damaging beneficials in the garden.

Thank-you for your reply. My hosta garden is in Wisconson. The site is shaded and damp and the slugs love it. Every year I have more. I use Sluggo because of pets, but it is very expensive for such a large area. The beer thing doesn't work because the squirrels and chipmunks tip the containers over. They think it's a party!

Diatomaceous earth is another option, but has to be reapplied after a rain.

They love beer. It it in small cans and they will climb right in!
  • Spread Epsom Salts - The coarseness of Epsom salts cut the slugs as they crawl across it and they'll die. Works for me

    Bonus, plants like Epsom Salts
