DIY Linen Spray & Household Cleaner

I have been using natural essential oils in my home for several years now. The benefits are countless. They provide an inexpensive way to go green, fight germs and make your house smell without using chemicals! All you need is distilled water, white vinegar and the essential oils of your choice.

but you can experiment to find your favorites. For instance, if you like pine scented cleaners, you can use tea tree oil and peppermint oil is also a nice alternative. Keep in mind that these tiny bottles go a long way. I used to purchase mine online as they tend to be much more expensive in health food stores. However, my local grocery store has started stocking them, reasonably priced so you might check yours first. In the long run, you will be saving money when you ditch your store bought cleaners and expensive linen sprays!
You will also need spray bottles. I found mine at the dollar store and chose different colored tops for my cleaner and linen spray. Store bought linen sprays can be quite pricey and most contain alcohol which I prefer not to spray on my bedding and really isn't necessary. Simply use it often rather than storing it, and shake vigorously before each spraying to mix the oil and water. I add about 4 drops of lavender essential oil to a quart bottle of distilled water, but you may want to add more or fewer drops according to your preference. Lavender has a soothing, calming effect which aids in sleeping--not to mention the lovely fragrance! If lavender isn't your favorite, just substitute another essential oil.
Lemongrass is my favorite oil for household cleaning. I use it to wipe down everything from kitchen and bathroom counters to door knobs. For this citrusy, germ busting cleaner, I add 1/8 cup vinegar to the quart bottle of distilled water and about 6 drops of lemongrass essential oils. Other citrus oils like sweet orange or pure lemon would work just as well. Again, just shake well prior to each spraying. Bet you'll be tossing your other cleaners in no time!
