Home Decor With Kids: Wooden Snowflake Wall Hanging

1.5 Hours
Easy
Is it normal to be REALLY excited about posting on Hometalk for the first time? I've been wanting to start posting on here for a long time, but just haven't found the time until now.

My husband and I are DIY renovating a 1950s rancher, while raising three kids (a 5-year-old and 3-year-old twins), working two full-time jobs, and running a blog about it all. So let's just say things get a little hectic sometimes! :)
One of our goals for 2016 is to try to include our kids in our home improvement projects a bit more, so I started a blog series sharing five home decor projects parents can do with kids every month.

Today I wanted to tell you about this fun wooden snowflake wall-hanging we made with the kids as one of our January projects.
I bought a bunch of unfinished wooden snowflakes at Michael’s for 27 cents a piece.
The kids painted them first with gray, white, and gold acrylic paint. After they dried for about a half hour, they followed up with a coat of silver glitter paint on the white and gray ones and gold glitter paint on the gold ones.
We did have a bit of bickering because Elias only wanted to paint with gray, while the girls wanted to try all the colors. But we got through this crisis without a major meltdown by engaging in some swift paint brush washing.
We had an empty spot in our bathroom next to the vanity and it seemed like the perfect spot for some snowflakes. So we hot glued fishing line on the backs of the snowflakes and hung them off of a piece of curly willow (also from Michael’s).
This was such a simple and easy project and the kids are so proud to have their work displayed on the wall!

Wouldn't these be wonderful hanging over a crib? Or stars over a toddlers bed? Very cute....
