Solution to killing Japanese Beetles

Does anyone have a solution to get rid of Japanese Beetles? Here in Iowa we have been dealing with these for the past 5 years. We've tried killing them through the roots to no avail. Tried using the products local nurseries have recommended with no luck at all. They started and have continued every year with our Pin Oak tree, and the last 2 years have become a problem with my Hostas and other shrubs, flowers, etc. in the front yard.

I do not know how to get rid of them but the an arborist friend of mine told me to not use the bags. They attract the beetles.

Japanese beetles overwinter in lawns as white grubs. You can apply a special treatment in September that will help to diminish their numbers in your lawn. JB are attracted to the hormones put off by other beetles, which is why the bags are a really bad idea! They just attract more! The best way to get rid of the adults is to walk around with a bucket of soapy water and a pair of gloves - drop the adults in the bucket. This of course intensive, but their hard outer shells are what make them impervious to many other chemicals and the attack of our native birds.

I applied Milky Spore to my back yard lawn last year. Planning on applying it to the front lawn this year and I have beneficial nemetodes to apply to my garden this year.

The problem is you may do all the right things at the right time to your lawn to control the grubs, but unless your neighborhood is doing likewise, you will still have the pests.

I do what Julie, does and walk around with a bucket with soapy water in it and flick them in the water. It is intensive, but it does take care of them to a degree.

Julie has the old fashioned idea. No gloves needed. I have done this for years as soon as I see them on any plant. Especially my roses. Get them early and your yard may be safe. It may take a lot more training to get your neighbors to do this. B-)

SPECTROCIDE SCATTERED OR SPREAD IN THE LAWN WILL KILL THE GRUBS THAT TURN INTO BEETLES, ALSO IF YOU KILL BEETLES NO MOLES TEARING UP YARD. I USE SPREADER WITH LAWN MOWER .

I picked many off my bean plants and put them in a blender full of water, then dumped the whole thing onto the bean plants . No more bugs!
