Faux Apothecary Cabinet - My Ikea Rast Hack

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to participate in an challenge. I love a good challenge so I was definitely game.
I've always really liked the look of card catalogs and apothecary cabinets so I set about to duplicate that look on a much smaller and simpler scale.
I started with the Ikea Rast dresser in blank slate form. First, I primed the dresser with PPG primer. I also used this as my base coat. It was a simple white paint but covered the dresser perfectly, left a great finish and provided just the muted white color I was looking for.
Once I primed my drawers I set about giving each drawer front the look of being 3 separate drawers all with color and added blue paint in grids.
To further delineate the drawer fronts and give the appearance of small, separate drawers, I added inexpensive photo frames to the center of each drawer.
I finished off the piece with French-inspired numbering and gold paint to add depth to the grids. You can find more details and a list of the specific paint colors and items used on my blog (link below). Thanks so much!

Did you divide up the drawers to equal the markings on the outside? Just a dumb question, but thought it might be of assistance if used for organization

Hi there, Great use of plain draws. I am now going to try the same myself. So thanks for the feel good factor. Just one question. What are the outside dimentions of the picture frames as I will be getting them first. Thanks again for posting. Viv UK
