Hang curtains at ceiling or under crescent?

This would be for keeping the view open, only closing them mid day when sun is blinding.

If it were me I would hang them under the crescent part. However I know how bad it is to have the blinding sun coming in mid day. Having said this, good luck. I do know you can order special window treatments for the crescents.

If I was hang hang the curtains my personal taste would over the top of the windows. I do however prefer shades or blinds. I see those windows with roman shades. What a beautiful view.

I think high as it gives the room a feeling of being larger.

You can see from the drawing how hanging under the crescent tends to shorten the room while at the ceiling draws the eye up and expands the sense of space. If it were me, no question, they'd go at the ceiling.

I worked on an historic house with similar windows. I specified sheers hung within the frame of each individual window (just the rectangle part, not the arches) and then panels on the outside of the entire window area mounted above the arches at the ceiling. It looked wonderful. Wish I'd taken a pic ;-) Even with the sheers on the windows, you can still push them aside (use two panels per window) when not needed to help with the sunshine.

How pretty! At one time I would have said below, but I would definitely put them above to showcase the whole window and view, and to make the room look bigger.

I so love your room! How beautiful! Hang your curtains at the ceiling. Are the curtains going to cover the windows when closed? If not, why have a rod that goes across the wall? You can hang small rods at each end only but it all depends on the look you want. If you choose the small ones you may want them to be invisible? You do not want to do anything that takes away from your windows and that great view.

Would do a mini-slat blinds inside the frame of each rectangle. These windows are so beautiful I wouldn't cover them with draperies.

What a beautiful view! I agree with Connie Nikiforoff Designs, under those gorgeous arches. They'll work as a natural nightlight for you in the evening.

Under definitely. Make sure your curtain rod runs even with the bottom frame of your Palladian windows.
  • Jackie Jackie on Jan 14, 2016
Hang at ceiling so you don't take away from the beautiful windows when they are opened
  • Dana Parrish-Kelter Dana Parrish-Kelter on Jan 14, 2016
Definitely from the ceiling! It will make you room look bigger, hanging lower will make your room look squatie ( shorten your windows)

What a gorgeous view! To the ceiling would keep the focus on the expansion view. Also, I would keep the curtain neutral and clean lines So as not to compete with the beautiful curves of the windows and the view.

I would hang curtains at the ceiling across the entire wall. Two reasons: Closed, the curtains would help to center the furniture in the room. Open, the Palladian windows would be viewed in their gorgeous entirety.

At the ceiling! Gorgeous windows and view.
  • Melly Melly on Jan 14, 2016
    Definitely at ceiling height!
  • Barbara Barbara on Jan 14, 2016
I agree on the ceiling you don't want to cover that beautiful architecture. Nor do you want to hide that wonderful scene outside .
  • Carol Carol on Jan 14, 2016
I would not put any curtains up. I like the architecture of the windows and I don't think curtains are necessary since it looks like there's no one living behind you that can look in your house. It seems private enough to go without.
  • Lisa Belcher Lisa Belcher on Jan 14, 2016
i would hang them to the ceiling.

I think you should do it above the window closest ceiling the other way it blocks the beauty of the windows and the view and makes the room look smaller. Placing the curtain close to the ceiling makes it looks more grandiose
  • Linda Linda on Jan 14, 2016
    I agree with Carol.
  • Ruidoso Ruidoso on Jan 14, 2016
Why even put up curtains? I have a window in my mountain cabin that doesn't have a curtain. As far as I am concerned, it will never have a curtain. IF privacy is not an issue, DON'T cover that beauty up!

You said the sun is blinding? Such a beautiful view. I would suggest UV window film to keep the view intact and solve the sun problem. If you're set on the curtains, I would definitely go with the closest to the ceiling. Although I really like the area without curtains. Just my two cents.
  • Connie Connie on Jan 14, 2016
Privacy is not the issue. She wants curtains to keep the sun out. Personally I would hang the curtains just above the curved ones. Perhaps add a smart looking shelf to display a pretty collection or springtime garland. Please whatever you decide, post after pictures.

perhaps some out door blinds can be installed, those are such beautiful windows and a view to die for.

consider 3M film which will keep the heat down but still keep the view. It comes in different degrees depending on how much you need to control the sun's blindness. It's easy to apply and you could put on just the windows or if needed put on the eyebrow Windows as well. Price would be less too. We've used it in one of our homes as well as a corner office at our company.

I would not hide the beautiful arches, but I would paint the trim on them in a color to compliment the curtains and make the arches pop!
  • Katrina Warren Katrina Warren on Jan 14, 2016
I would go with under the cresent......
  • Em Em on Jan 14, 2016
DEFINATELY under the beautiful top windows. Let the beautiful arches show. The bottom should give you plenty of shade in the area without darkening the entire room.
  • The Redesign Habit The Redesign Habit on Jan 15, 2016
I agree, definitely under the top windows. They are beautiful so leave them exposed! :)
