Recommendations For Purchasing A Blender

I want to purchase a blender for smothies, etc. and would like to know what kind you have used and how pleased you have been with them please. The prices seem to run from very low end to the very high end and it is hard to decide what to buy.

Lin, everyone I know that makes smoothies uses a Ninja. We tried two other brands before our daughter told us about the Ninja and it's by far the best. I think the best thing about them is there's not just blades at the bottom so things really get blended well.

I don't have a blenders, but I just bought a juicer and am very proud of the research I did before purchasing, so I wanted to chime in. :) Here's what I know about blenders: Vita-Mix is the Cadillac of blenders but ranges from $340 -$600 Blendtec is also a powerful high-end brand and they range from $230 - $600 Breville has models ranging from $150 - $300. (My juicer is a Breville and I am very pleased with it.) Other lower cost reliable brands: Waring's MBB518 Pro, Kitchen Aid's five speed, 56 ounce blender, and the Oster Classic Beehive. I got this info from a book I love, Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. (I'm on a vegan organic journey :) Her advice was spot on re. juicers,so I'm passing on her blender suggestions. Hope this helps!

I've got a 40 plus year old Waring....this thing only has two speeds but it is built like a tank and will probably out live me...in addition to smoothies we use it for margaritas and it does a good job with the ice. http://www.amazon.com/Waring-Commercial-BB900G-40-Ounce-Container/dp/B00197DWZI/ref=sr_1_10?s=kitchen&srs=2530760011&ie=UTF8&qid=1365691595&sr=1-10 the above link is the more modern version.

Thank you everyone. It is just so confusing when they have them starting at $16.99 and up to $600 plus! Becky, I have been seeing the Ninja's and noticed they have that piece that stirs along with the blades. KMS thank you so much for the link and Miriam thank you for your info also. Good luck with your Vegan journey. I am a Vegetarian so am on your journey somewhat.

@Lin R, my hubby travels weekly and he was missing having his morning smoothie so we found a mini (16oz) Ninja for him to take and leave at his hotel along with his extra set of clothes (changing planes in Denver has proved that necessary). It was just under twenty dollars. I'll let you know if he's happy with how it chops frozen fruit.

    Thank you Becky.

I just heard from my hubby via text and he said it worked great. He's not one to use words like great unless he really was happy with something. He's more of a "it was okay" sort of guy.

Becky you have been so kind to provide all this info to me. Can you please tell me the model of your Ninja that you have at home? I know Sam's Club sells one of the models.

I forgot to say also Becky that I am glad it is working out for your husband to make his smoothies while away from home. He was very smart to figure out a way to do that!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you Lin. I've been going crazy trying to catch up on house work, laundry and sewing all the bedding an other things for our new grandbaby before we head to Hawaii to see her that I've only had time to peak into Hometalk. I'll run downstairs and check for you...... I can find no model number on it at all, but it looks just like this one at WM. T carries one just like but for ten dollars more. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ninja-Master-Prep-Food-Processor/14895654

Oh my goodness she is so cute! You are not going to believe this but she looks a lot like my son and my daughter did when they were born! They are now 42 and 36! I know you are so proud of her! Thank you for sharing!

Aw that's sweet. Thank you Lin. It's hard to believe by that picture but she weighed just over six pounds then. She looks so round. She looks like both her Mommy and Daddy. I can't wait to watch her grown. I hope they get closer to home soon so we can see them more often.

My grandbabies have all lived in different states too and I missed so much not having them close. My son-in-law is in the Army and they have lived in several states. I hope they get to be closer to you also. They grow up so fast! I must also mention that you look so young to be a grandmother!

Our Son-in-law is in the Air Force. Our daughter was too which is where they met while stationed in S.Korea. They have about 18 months left in Hawaii. Thank you for the compliment on not looking old enough to be a Grammy. I think I've aged allot since that photo was taken almost two years ago. I've been meaning to have a new one taken, but I hate being on the front side of a camera.
