What is the best way to heat/cool a 12 x 14 sunroom with lots of sun?

Adding onto existing ductwork from house not an option.

If the room is insulated and has the right types of windows, you should be able to benefit a lot from passive solar heating in the winter. For anything additional, a space heater is probably the simplest option. In the summer, blinds and fans should keep it comfortable. Hope that helps.

This is very helpful information. Do you have any suggestions about "seer" requirements considering this room is south/southwest facing in hot Atlanta?! The room is all windows (high quality) with a short knee wall.

The higher the seer the better. You need to check the states rebate programs for high efficiency systems. Depending on the model and Seer rating you may get rebates for the equipment. Also you may want to consider window films as well. There are several types that will reflect the heat out and keep the heat in during the cooler months. The type you have is dependent upon the window type you currently have installed now. But its something you may want to look into to help stop any drafty feelings that you may experience if the room is filled with glass. http://www.lower-my-energybill.com/heat-control-window-film.html

JM....what is the surface of the sun room? Is it on a concrete pad or is it above ground on a joist type flooring system? And do you want to add a "heat pump"or traditional HVAC system? If it were me, with that small of an area, I would install radiant heating through the floor joists or if on a concrete pad I would add electric baseboard heat strips. For cooling, just add a through the wall AC unit.....probably a 7500 BTU unit. Just my humble opinion......
