Moving and established Camellia?
Its a little over 6 feet tall and about 2.5" in diameter at the base. Any advice?

Douglas Hunt on Apr 15, 2013Cathrine, there are no guarantees about transplanting with any plant. You shouldn't do so unless you are prepared to lose the plant. Camellias actually have shallow roots, but they do resent being moved. If you are going to do so, the best time to do so is when the plant is dormant. You are probably pushing the envelope for that now, although spring is making a tardy arrival in much of the country. It's crucial to keep the soil moist for the entire growing season after you transplant.Helpful Reply

Cathrine Clair on Apr 15, 2013Thanks Douglas. Its blooming now, so I guess I'll have to wait till next winter/early spring. I think I might just try pruning it after it blooms and see if I can make it work instead of moving it.Helpful Reply
