Spring's First Blooms

It must be spring because my crocuses are blooming. It's so easy to get some early spring blooms by planting crocus bulbs in the fall.
Even though most of my garden still looks like this, there's hope.
The crocuses under my magnolia tree have begun to bloom.
You need to plant these in holes about 2" deep in October in order to get blooms in the spring.
Place 5-7 bulbs in a hole 6" in diameter to create a clumping effect. They multiply quickly providing more blooms each year.
Crocuses come in a variety of purples, whites and yellows. I usually buy a mixed bag for variety.
This neglected little side yard is filled with lovely blue scilla.
Naturalized throughout the lawn, these scilla produce a carpet of little blue or white flowers in early spring.
