KMS Woodworks on Jan 30, 2012I have always had great results with Schlage...At least with the middle of the road priced stuff....the cheapest from ALL companies are pretty lame. In some cases malfunctions are due to minor alignment issues with the install that loosen up or bind later....was this a DIY install?Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jan 30, 2012KMS hit the doorknob right on the head with this. Its not so much about the price as it is about the quality of the install. The hardware must be aligned properly to prevent undo wear on the latch and locking assembly within the knob itself. When you say stopped working, what is happening to make it stop working?Helpful Reply

Clay B on Jan 30, 2012Schlage is usually very good (good install above is also key), Baldwin are very good as well. Also, get a Grade 1(best), or at least Grade 2, forget grade 3 or lower. I used to rekey locks, many cheaper lcoks have plastic parts. A good knob with deadbolt should be about $100 or more. May also want to buy from local locksmith (with storefront).Helpful Reply

Andrew S on Jan 30, 2012This was definitely a DIY install. So i guess this is user-error. Basically after a few times using the key, it would no longer open the lock. I tried reinstalling the lock a couple of times and it worked but then it didn't.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Jan 31, 2012With a dead bolt there is a bit of a "sweet spot" with the tension of the mounting screws and the "angle" of the bolts stroke...it takes some practice to find "it"Helpful Reply

Security Product Depot on Mar 20, 2012Door Entry Locks from Emtek manufacturers entry locks that are easy to install and hold up to a lot of traffic. In addition, they offer a wide range of the newest styles and latest finishes. Here's a list of the specs and some of the styles they offers in a entry lock or deadbolt. You can visit us online at www.securityproductdepot.com to view the details on these and others. - Knob / lever handles are supported by springs mounted behind the rosettes and side plates, which return the handles back to the rest position and prevent lever sag. - Latches are heavy-duty die cast construction, with strong internal springs, solid brass nose bolts, and sintered metal cams. - Plastic bushing located in the joint between the handle and the rosette ensures a friction-free wear surface, preventing metal from bearing on metal and providing smooth, long-lasting operation. - Handles are positively connected to rosettes with a permanent clip. Each has a set screw which eliminates "handle wobble" when tightened. - Emtek's threaded tubes are machined brass to ensure good threads and prevent corrosion.Helpful Reply
