Are you a less is more type or a more is great type?

These are two projects I did in my interior design business. One was a client who wanted his home to look like he was a world traveler and collector. (I sourced all the stuff he brought only his clothes) the other is a world traveller who wanted a warm clean place to relax.

My personal style tends to be contemporary with less clutter. I love working on projects for clients that want many different looks, it makes things more fun for me than having a particular look that I keep repeating. The pictures below are a client that wanted Art Deco so that is what I gave them.

These room reflect a strong theory and thought process. I suspect this is in a metro building and has high expectations from its owner.

My styles vary. I like a room to looks lived in, but not cluttered. I like warm tones over cool and I would say my overall style is eclectic. I mix old and new. The eclectic room seems a bit cluttered and the warm contemporary seems a little cold to me.

I don't care for any of those pictures so I don't know what I am...lol...I am with Pam R....I like warm and cozy with some things out but I hate clutter which my house has become...time to undo!!!

Warm contemporary appeals to me. Some people decorate too much, they really overdo the patterns which make my eyes hurt...

I definitely like more is better. Lots of pieces with great history behind them.It becomes very inviting. I don't like stacks of magazines or dirt, filth, and such. But books stacked on a table or on a shelf, knick-knacks on them. Live plants, here and there; small collections here and there. People start asking questions, and go from there, never a moment of silence. I like to mix traditional, contemporary, I am very eclectic. But... I decorate for me.. no one else. I love to display items, why hide them. My friends know I'll keep special items out all year and enjoy them. Certain stores will call me and say "I have and Aleta item, would you like to come look at it?". I think that is so cool.

Less is more! There are those who experience life and those who want to surround themselves w/it. I don't have to have a bunch of stuff for memories they lie within my soul and heart! Nice job on both, but the less is Exquisite, I'd love to sit at your knee and LEARN!

great comment about different ppl's style, you give them what they want, not what you want, reflecting that you are a true artist in all aspects, dislike a designer that you obviously know that this is their work because it so repeatative, doesn't put you into a box, stifle or limit the possibilities

I like more to feel comfortable and homey. the clean sterile look reminds me of a cold place such as a hospital. Like warm and inviting, your home welcomes you!!
  • Each has it's own distinct style. I love the great textures and unique elements that are great surprises in each.

I must agree with Kass of Walls Treat Studio ~~~ intelligently and diplomatically stated.

I like more. I don't like to see everything brand new. My home is filled with antiques from my grandmother, from items I bought at antique shops, flea markets, consignment shops. I think it looks more interesting and looks like my home evolved over a period of time rather than slapped all together at one time.

Definitely a world traveler, more is interesting, more conversation!
  • Bonnie B Bonnie B on Mar 05, 2012
Sheila ~~ I agree with you. Treasures from around-the-world travels have history and are filled with personal sentiment. Great reminders of past trips, past memories and marvelous conversation pieces ~ !

My taste is less. Too much more looks like clutter to me, but that's just me. Whatever floats your boat and makes you happy is the way to go.
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on May 02, 2012
I love the warm contemporay because it is an elegant clean look. I prefer to spend my time outdoors; not cleaning tons of treasures/history. I don't have a maid although that is a nice thought.
  • Jan L Jan L on May 03, 2012
I don't have a contemporary or modern bone in my body. I think style is more interesting when there are layers to a room with a story to tell. My home is decorated with items on travels, flea markets, antique auctions, consignment shops, and inherited antiques. I think a home is more interesting when you look around a room and see items that make you ask "wow, that is so cool, what is the story behind that".

Why would anyone decorate or plan a room they will live in to suit anyone but the occupant? That is like eating extra dessert thinking that it will make the person who made it fat!!! EXPRESS YOURSELF!!!
