what can you do with a carport if you don't drive? Can it be made an attractive outdoor space?

Ricardo B on Jan 31, 2012I'm thinking an outdoor lanai! Or how about an outdoor entertaining space for BBQ parties or gametime gatherings... Go for it, Gail! Or go crazy and use it for propagating plants or use it for some of your favorite hobbies or projects that can get, um, mesy!Helpful Reply

3po3 on Jan 31, 2012If your carport is structurally sound, it should be pretty easy to make it a screened porch if that is something that might interest you.Helpful Reply

Garden Rebel / Sims Landscaping, Co. on Feb 01, 2012You could use a quality contrasting deck paint to paint the floor, or perhaps a thin paver that would class things up and create an outdoor potted garden with annuals and or herbs. Color can also be added by carefully selecting bright pots . A round garden table can become an outdoor breakfast area. It instantly becomes your "morning coffee breakfast spot". It also is a great new outdoor room to sit with friends and family with the Yorkie in your lap.I believe less is more and all of the containers must be very high end as good display pots are forever and can always be rotated to other areas in the yard. Wall art such as a bright ceramic "sun" is great and a local artist could do a garden scene on the back wall, perhaps with a center meandering path to infinity.... your very own "secret garden".Helpful Reply

AK Complete Home Renovations on Feb 01, 2012Post some pictures if you can, Gail. A landscaped path connecting to the house could be possible, hanging screens as previously mentioned are also an idea...Make an outdoor living space to suit your lifestyle. Cooking, entertaining, reading, gardening...whatever your favorite thing to do is!Helpful Reply

Gail W on Feb 01, 2012You all have been so helpful! This is an older (50s) home that needs dressing up! I will post pics. I had a screened porch in my former home in NC and LOVED it! I am leaning toward that! Thanks. Your responses are overwhelming!Helpful Reply
