Hello it’s Mary from Orphans With MakeUp and today I am sharing a very pink project to take away your winter blues! I wanted a girly, girly rustic look.
To achieve this, I sanded the top a little and applied a bit of stain and then wiped most of it off. The top had lots of dings accumulated over time and I did not want to take away from that. The stain was merely to emphasize the dings. I then waited 24 hours and sealed the wood top with 3 coats of Tough Coat.
For the body of the dresser I first scuff-sanded and then applied 2 coats of Vintage Cupcake. After drying, to tone down the pink just a touch, I added a few spoons of Vintage Cupcake in a cup and lightened it with a few drops of Vanilla Frosting and then diluted this with a lot of water. I brushed this wash over the body of the dresser randomly and after drying, distressed it quite heavily.
I sealed it with the Natural Wax and then to emphasize the engraved and carved details, I also added some White Wax. I found the easiest way to get the white wax in the engraving was to push it in with my fingers.
The original hardware was a little dull and so I revived the brass with Pocket Watch Metallic Cream. I love how the gold and pink go together.
For a fresh and clean look, the interior drawers were painted in Lazy Linen.
Here is the “Before” picture. To make this dressier have a bit more presence I added a backsplash and two wood appliqués on the left and right side of the body.

I hope you enjoyed this transformation.

Have a great day.
