Heart Shaped Ribbon Lei Wreath

Thinking of a unique way to decorate for Valentines? Why not create a beautiful heart shaped ribbon lei wreath? I learned how to make a ribbon lei at a class on a cruise around Hawaii. Most ribbon leis are made out of much smaller width ribbon but I thought it would be fun to see how using wider ribbon would look. It was so easy to do and definitely makes a huge décor and holiday statement.
I used ribbon from a 2.5" wide, 50 yard roll of ribbon I got after Christmas for less than five dollars to make this. I only needed two 6yd strips to get started making the weave pattern. Briefly, to make the lei, it's about making two loops and inserting one into the other and tightening. That's it! For a more detailed tutorial, visit my post on Bowdabrablog where I'm on the design team: http://www.bowdabrablog.com/2016/01/25/heart-shaped-ribbon-lei-wreath/
The resulting design is a combination of looping alternating strips, and inserting one into the other. Just loop, insert and gently tighten ribbon until you have braided most of the ribbon and have only a few inches left.
Nearing the end, tighten the ribbon and pull the tail end of the last loop all the way through to finish off the braid. Cross the ends over and tuck them inside the loops.
Look at the beautiful ribbon pattern! Once finish, shape the lei into a heart.
To hang, cut out a heart shape from poster board . . .
and glue on the ribbon lei to the board. Attach a bow to the loop and hang in your favorite spot!
