How do you remove a Clorox stain on toilet seat?

I accidentally moved the toilet scrubber brush and didn't realize there were droplets of water with Clorox in it that landed on the plastic toilet seat. Hours later, it stained the seat and I haven't been able to clean it off. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

  • You have bleached out the color in the seat. You cannot correct this. Sorry to say but the only way to fix is to replace the seat.

Bummer. I was hoping there was some magic product I could use, but luckily plastic toilet seats aren't that expensive. Thank you for letting me know.

All in all, a pretty easy, cheap way to learn a lesson.

Perhaps you could remove the seat & spray paint it with the paint made for plastic?

Diane, that is a really interesting idea. I have been wanting to test out spray painting for some fixer up projects, so this will be a great way to test this out simply and cheaply. Thanks for the great idea. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, please let us know. The paint wouldn't be scrubable, but washing down with a cloth and some mild cleaner ought to work especially if you let the paint dry very well before using seat. Read the paint directions well to be sure.

I can tell you from experience that you can't remove the stain. It will get harder and harder to clean. I'm kinda glad I messed up the seat because I found the newer seats that close slowly & quietly. They don't just crash when put down.

Didn't you read the bottle? I think that it says "Kills 99.99% of toilet seats" somewhere in that tiny print that I can't read. I discolored my seat, too, but I polished it back to shiny, and applied lemon furniture wax. Good as new, if you don't slip off the seat and kill yourself and your butt is big enough to prevent you from falling in. Slippery but visually acceptable. Chlorox cleanup worked great on the sink and toilet bowl, though.

You can use fingernail polish removal. I had several spots from pouring the bleach in the toliet and it splashed. So I use the fingernail polish remover and it came right off with a good scrub.

I did the same thing with the bleach bottle. Tried Roslyn's idea of using nail polish remover, worked like a charm. Applied polish remover with a cotton ball, scrubbed till the discoloration was gone then rinsed and dried with a paper towel. It's unnoticeable although if you look really closely you can see the mark. Thanks for the tip šŸ˜Š

I had accidentally left Clorox bleach in toilet bowl leading to nasty yellow ring around the water line. I tried some of the strategies provided here and on other sites. The solution was very simple. I used a long screwdriver to gently scrub off the yellow stain, which was some form of deposit. Good luck

The clorox is a bleack and the color has been removed, either replace or paint. Rustoleum makes a good paint for plastic.

Quick answer is you can't. Buy new seat or paint or use a transfer to cover marks.

I used Cif cream cleaner after my toilet seat turned yellow from bleach. The yellowing disappeared. Worked well!

I can attest to Roslyn's advice on nail polish remover. Definitely worked! I had bleach streaks under the toilet seat cover and they disappeared after wiping down with cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover.

  • The color has been bleached out of the seat. You can replace it easily. https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2021/06/how-to-replace-a-toilet-seat.html

Sounds like the only thing you can do is replace the seat.

I found the solution, It is Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser. Hopefully you can find it somewhere! I was panicking and quickly grabbed this and after scrubbing with a piece of Scotch Brite, the stain came off. Hope this helps!!!šŸ˜
