Decorating ideas for 6yr old boys room, using matchbox cars.

I have lots of matchbox cars and have seen several ideas suggesting to use magnets to adhere to a magnetic strip that was attached to the wall...but it doesn't seem to be strong enough to hold the cars. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried looking on pinterest i bet you could find tons of ideas there alot that come with instructions. its free to join everything on it is free.

Chair rail molding turned upside down and glue a furring strip to it and nail to wall where you want. A furring strip should be wide enough for them to just sit on. Set at waist height so they are still accessible to the young man to play with them. Of you can create small shelf lengths scattered on the wall. Not too sure how many you have but if you go with the first idea if you have enough, it would almost resemble a "room border". You can also get some large picture frames (they don't have to match) and you can paint them the same color and then make furring strip insert shelves and hang them with the cars on the "shelves".

What about a shelf made out of that stand off molding...the kind that is used on the top edge of a mantel and fancy furniture, run it as a brightly painted (maybe red) around the room like a chair rail and sit the little cars all around the room! Molding is not very expensive and if you don't want to miter it, use corner pieces (Maybe painted black and white checked). see photo of corner pieces in my photo attached.

Not all toy cars are magnetic so they may not all stick to a magnetized strip. It would be cool to find some vintage soda crates and attach them to a wall. Your son would then have an individual spot for each of his cars and a unique element to the decor of his room.

I pinned this site a while back. Read the entire post--this person came up with a way to use/store her son's cars that actually is a display also. The first part of her post has a link where you can buy what she came up with...if you keep scrolling down, the last part of the post shows what she used to create the display. You don't have to buy it from her...it looks like she used shoe racks. Hope this helps...it's really cute! I applied a stickon magnet to the bottom of car to allow for additional hold.
