we repaired a crack over our bathroom door a couple months ago and now it looks like it reappearing (puffed up where the crack is/was) Is this common or is it likely something more serious going on? Thanks for the input

was this a repair in drywall? Most drywall crack have to do with seams or movement due to settle of poor installation. Can you post a pic?
  • Also Jackie, how old is the home or the area itself if it was an addition or remodel?
  • Sounds as though there is some minor movement going on. Besides knowing the age and info that Dan's is asking for, can you tell us a bit more? Is the crack vertical, horizontal, or at an angle? Does the door bind? Or does it appear not to be evenly spaced along the top of the door to the frame when its closed? Is the room on a slab, over a basement or crawl, or on a 2nd floor? Is there a crack on both sides or just one? As KMS said can you post a photo?

The house is now 21 years old...picture coming. If its a stress crack should we just re do the mesh tape/compound process again?

If there is "backing" a.k.a. studs behind I like to drive a few more drywall screws into the repair area to firm up possible movement of the sheet rock...then mesh tape and mud.
  • Jackie, that may be the fix along with what KMS said. But I would, being me, would like to know what caused this crack all of a sudden. Knowing more about it shape, angle, size location will help understand what caused this just so it does not continue if a fix somewhere else needs to be done. Photo will help.

We had doors and windows that were hard to open and close. Heliotech came in and jacked up the south east corner less than 1/4 inch. No problems since. It also caused cracks in several places. It costs a lot but yo get a life time guarantee,
