Old Dresser Turned Display/TV Console

This dresser was originally missing a drawer which someone filled with a make shift shelf. I had a client that wanted display space and storage for TV components but did not want it to look like a book shelf. You can see more finished pieces on my facebook page at www.facebook.com/sweetblossomchic
This was very damaged on top with tons of nicks and dings. Pine is very soft so it shows all imperfections.
We removed the top two sections of drawers and supports for an open area big enough for collectables and for components. We did add a few supports through the center and the back so that the shelf didn't bow under the weight of heavier objects.
To cover all of the unsightly guts we added beadboard along the bottom and the back and trimmed all the rough edges out with flat rounded edged trim. The finish requested was a barn red with a small amount of distressing and dark glazing. We did end up adding a center support from top to bottom to hold the weight of a TV on top.
Here is the final complete piece in the clients home with their display and storage items.

I wish they would be more specific. How do you add center and back supports and make it look like it was part of the original? I’m not a carpenter.
