Old Flatware Chest Gets a New Life

I found this flatware chest at a thrift store for $3.49! After a little demo and a new pretty paint job, it now has a new life! (You can see how I created a perfect harlequin pattern at the link below.)
Cute chest, right?
It used to house flatware. Mmmm purple velvet...
So much better!
Boring before
Ahh, the after
This could hold just about anything now!

Beautiful Job. A great friend of mine was from Florida and was crazy about the beach! As a gift for her being land locked in Atlanta, I found an old wooden silverware box...small and 1 layer. I took out the insert, painted a beach scene on the inside of the top, filled it with play sand, had some babies from a shower cake I laid out on bright cloth (beach blanket), added a small demi-fork for a rake and my mother had a paper umbrella from a cocktail drink that could be opened. Closed, it looked like just a wooden box...opened, she was at the beach! She had a fit over it! I have since lost my good friend but I know she is walking the beaches of heaven right now and this is one of my favorite memories of her!
  • What a wonderful gift, Jeanette! She is really lucky to have such a thoughtful friend!!
