Giving an Old Dresser New Style

We found an old dresser at one of our favorite used furniture stores in Charleston. It had nice details, but needed new hardware and paint and a little tlc.
The dresser is well built and we loved the scallops at the bottom. The white paint job wasn't the look we wanted though.
The brass knobs were in pretty bad condition, the top of the dresser was a mess and the metal drawer tracks had to be adjusted.
There were lots of bubbles and indentations on top.
I used my palm sander to smooth the top and give me a fresh surface to paint. Espresso Beans from Behr in Satin was the paint I used. It went on evenly and I had the top looking great.
I changed out the brass knobs for some pretty ones from World Market. These are Geo Mineral Knobs. We selected five of them that are similar, yet each one is unique.
I used Bar Keeper's Friend to clean up the long drawer pulls. That stuff works great!

I gave it two coats of paint, allowing it to dry overnight between coats.
Once it was dry, I gave it two coats of Miniwax Polycrilic Protective Finish. I was careful to avoid applying it too thickly. With the new knobs, shiny pulls and paint, this dresser was given new life. We love the updated look. What do you think?
Styling it with some gold accent pieces gives a nice cohesive look to it. For more details, we'd love for you to visit the link below.
