Ranch rambler Living Room

We are purchasing a 1984 ranch rambler. The living room has the cathedral slanted ceiling. I am looking for advice on paint and decor for this room. Not sure how to handle such a tall ceiling.

I too have that tall ceiling in last two houses. The best way to handle the longest one that has no windows is to use several tall bookcases together. I happen to have bookcases that came with shelved corner pieces so they wrap around the edge. Either way, it gives proper heighth to that wall. I include decor on top--baskets, unusual items, huge moss ball, but it helps it look like a piece of decor. Also, I had a window. I did not use 106"(108"?) curtains...when I switched and used an antique mirror in the dead space from window to top of curtain rod, it just made the wall make more sense. My entry is also on this tall wall so I used a pottery barn piece as an entry storage piece but hung a horizontal piece of art it's width and then a mirror above the framed art. It hangs the same width but tall. I do hang an unusual wreath that ties in to my long curtains next to it. On the opposite side of the room, the wall is again tall. Since a hallway cuts into it, it's not as much space but I used a huge clock over a piano to help give visual weight. I have a piece of original rustic cross art over the hallway to fill that empty space. Just don't forget this space and keep things eye level. It looks much better to embrace it!!
