Farmhouse Chair Makeover

I had this antique farm chair in the attic over my barn for years. I loved the shape and the construction is great, but the finish was just too far gone to use as is. So I gave it a fresh new look. What do you think?
AFTER
This is how the chair looked when I brought it inside.
BEFORE
First, I cleaned, scraped and sanded so that all the loose paint came off the piece. Then I tried painting a test area of a couple of different colors, but nothing seemed to do the trick. Then I tried a nice fresh cream color and I knew that was what was needed to brighten it up and really make the old time style of this chair come to light. I think this may have been hand made in its day. Look how the side spindles are carved right into the bottom of the chair!
The layers of paint are still showing a lot under the new paint, but I chose to leave it that way for a shabby chic look. I also made a colorful floral cushion for it, but I'm not sure if it's better with or without the cushion.
