Why do my camellias have buds but do not bloom? How can I remove fan palms that are growing in the middle of my plants?

Camellias can be finicky bloomers, Eileen, and it is tough to get some varieties to bloom at all. Do you know what type or cultivar you have? How much sunlight is it getting? What about irrigation? When are you fertilizing?Have you tried disbudding, or removing the excess buds the plant produces? Palm seedlings are easiest to deal with when they are small. I find a pair of pliers works well to help you grab low on the seedling and pull. If they have gotten larger than that, you could try dipping a foam brush in glyphosate (commonly sold as Roundup) and painting them, making sure not to get any of the chemical on your other plants.

Proper fertilization ( 4 times per year with an Azalea / Camellia) and don't over water.

If they have buds now, they may bloom later. Some varieties bloom in March/April.

I agree with Walter, I have a camellia that is budded but not blooming, it will bloom soon. I should fertilize but don't and it does just fine.

Thanks Douglas. Unfortunately , I do not know what type camellia I have. Also, do you know how to remove fan palms that grow in between plants?

Eileen, how big are the fan palms? I gave you some tips in my first answer, but if you tell us the size I'll try to be more specific.

Douglas........I apologize for not having read all that you had posted initially. I have tried to spray a little roundup on the fan palms. Perhaps I did not put enough on. I thank you for your help. P.S. I will try the pliers first............Thanks again.

It would definitely be better to pull them if you can. Otherwise, try painting the Roundup on them full-strength. There's less danger of getting it on neighboring plants and you'll get better coverage.
