Emerald Green Chest

If you haven't had your morning cup of coffee yet, don't bother. This dresser will not only make you think Spring, it will also give you a jolt of energy for sure! Go bold or go home. That pretty much sums up this furniture makeover.
I found this piece awhile back on Craigslist. It was in great shape, had clean modern lines and amazing hardware. On top of that, it is made of Mahogany, making it a high quality, durable piece. The hard part was just deciding how I wanted to finish the dresser. I finally decided on Emerald Milk Paint by General Finishes . It's a deep green color that makes a big statement.
I first sanded the whole piece to make sure it was extra smooth. I knew I wanted a modern look, so the smoother the better. I applied three coats of paint with a foam roller, sanding with 320 grit in between each layer. Again, the foam roller reduced any brush strokes, keeping the finish clean and crisp.
Once the painting was complete, the final step was sealing it with polyurethane to protect it and to give it a sheen.
Ok, so maybe I didn't actually do this step...but I've gotta guy. And let me tell you, this guy is gooooood. You see that gun? That's some serious stuff right there. To ensure this piece maintained the modern, high-sheen look I was going for, I (ok, he) sealed it with polyurethane using a professional grade gun. No lines. No streaks. All glitz and glam.
The end result...O-M-G! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Silky smooth and shiny. Can I take you home with me?!
It has such a high-sheen, luxurious look.
The clean lines really compliment the bold color.
The deep green is also a great backdrop to showcase the rich gold hardware.
I'm not going to lie, after the first coat I was definitely feeling a bit apprehensive about my decision. I was telling myself maybe I should have stuck to a safe color, like white. But after each coat I became more and more excited to see the final outcome.
I know, an emerald green chest doesn't fit into everyone's decor. However, even though it's a bold piece, I think you can really make it work in a variety of interior decor styles.
