Would like some constructive advice about bedroom furniture placement!

Question

Hello! I'm trying to come up with a way to rearrange our bedroom furniture in order to accommodate a settee sofa that I recently obtained. (My husband likes to watch TV in bed, I do not; I prefer to sit up when I read, watch TV, etc.) I've got a large window, a closet, and the door swing to take into consideration...feedback, suggestions, opinions, and alternative ideas most welcome!!!

Based on your drawings, I prefer #3. However, if there is room, I would try to shift the settee, the table and the bed over as far as you can toward the closet so you have as much floor space between the bed and wall as possible. I would also try to position the table so the settee and bed can both take advantage of a reading lamp on the table. If you are going to purchase 1 (or 2) new tables, something oblong shaped (and turned with the long side against the arm of the settee) would take up less room than a round table so you may gain even more space between the bed and wall, and then you might be able to squeeze in another end table on the other side of the bed. This arrangement seems to give you plenty of floor space in front of the closet for dressing and the settee is right there to provide a place to sit down to put on shoes and socks. I also like that there seems to be ample room to pull the vanity chair out. 
 However, I've found that in real life, drawings don't always give a good 'feel' to how the room will actually look, flow and function. I usually have to end up moving furniture around anyway. lol. Good luck!

I personally like the settee against the window. I am thinking since you prefer to read or watch tv how nice it would feel against that sunshine coming through.

I prefer no television in the bedroom but if you must have a spot to sit, the best option would be to have the settee across from the entertainment center so you aren't straining or twisting to watch your show.

Beds under a window is often concern for neck and back ache from draughts. Do you really need the TV etc in your bedroom? Not having an entertainment centre would certainly give you a lot more room.

I like option two. See if you can move the bed and end table over and put the seatee on an angle to view the tv better.

Option 2 and 4 but with a cosmetic idea - Hang a very long curtain rod or possibly 2 close to the ceiling. Add curtains ceiling to floor centered on the wall. Dont worry about the window - center the space with the look of fabric. If you want the light you can always open them. Its dramatic and fixes the look of an uneven space.

how about putting the bed at an angle in the corner, put the settee near the closet so it is across from the tv. then you can put something tall behind the bed to fill that space.

This is fun. From a practical point of view, I think it's always nice to have a side table on both sides of the bed. I also like plenty of room to make the bed from both sides, otherwise it's too hard. When placing the settee for TV viewing, be sure you won't have glare from the window, unless you only watch at night. In that case, no worries. Aesthetically, I like the second option the best. Please let us know what you do.

If you can turn the door around to swing out instead of in so you can have more space on that wall. If so the use the vanity as one side table & put the bed on that wall, put the entertainment center on the opposite wall with the settee on the window wall. I hope that makes sense...

There's one last way you haven't tried.  Put the bed on the door wall.  Entertainment/TV unit at the end of the bed wall.  The settee under the window, and bed table in the corner on the right side of bed.  If room allows, try to fit a small bed table or shelf next to the bed on the left side.  Good luck.

I like #1 idea but I would switch the entertainment unit & vanity so you can watch tv better.

If you can put the door to swing out, it will give you much more room on that wall. Try drawing it out with the bed in the corner by the window, on the door wall. the bed doesn't have to be exactly centered in the corner, it can be more against the door wall to give room for tables on each side. Have the settee, if it's low enough, at the end of the bed, and the vanity either in the other window corner or on the wall close to the door. Put the TV on the wall angled toward the bed. If it's a newer thin tv you can get wall hanging units that let you angle it for better viewing.

The other thing you could do to make the room appear more spacious is to put the vanity under the tv, and then put the settee in the other window corner opposite the bed. Then put a nice small table next to the settee.

I advise against putting the bed too close in a corner - you'll regret it every time you make the bed!
What about using option #3, but swap the table for the bed, leaving the table in the corner. Now turn the vanity 180 degrees and put it at the end of the bed and find a smaller stool that tucks into the leg space when not in use. Then centre the entertainment stuff and have it facing both bed and settee. 
I don't know if this gives you enough room around the end of the bed or not, but it will leave you with a bed sized shape of floor that you can put down a throw rug.

#4 May be a good option for balance - but if you can, try switching the vanity & entertainment center. It would maximize your floor space, put your TV across from your setee & give you more natural light at your vanity. One thing I couldn't find in your info was the height of items - height can sometimes balance a large piece like a bed. Have fun & don't forget to use black out liners for watching TV during the day & sleeping in when you can! LOL!

I would face the dressers to the closet forming a 'dressing area' and put the bed up against the dressers facing the windows

If he is watching the TV from the settee I would try to place it in front of the entertainment center somehow so he is boring it straight on. Or Center the entertainment center between the settee and the bed if you watch TV also.

Just a few thoughts...the head of your bed should not butt up against a wall that has a bathroom behind it. Nor should the foot of your bed face the door opening. According to Feng Shui, the head of your bed should not be up against the window as the chi that enters your home will rush across your bodies as you sleep. Not good for your health.

Another thought ...Your bed is best located where it is. If you were to place it so the head of the bed is beside the door that would not be good because the chi entering the window would have to travel across your bodies to escape out the door. As it is now the chi has an unobstructed route.

I would flip the whole room around, Option 2, putting the bed on wall with door, seatee in front of window, ent. cnt. across from bed, and vanity next to closet. So the whole room is flipped, except the seatee.

Without having room dimensions, I choose option 1, for it gives the best flow of the room. If there is an option to make the bedroom door a pocket or French doors, give it some consideration, for it would give added wall space an flow to the room. I'm not a fan of having a tv in the bedroom, for the room is to be a relaxing sanctuary for sleep. But if your going to have a tv in the bedroom, look for an armoire for housing the tv and clothing needs for hubby, or better yet consider a custom wall system that would address dressing table, clothing storage and housing for the tv. I personally feel that the settee is to large for the space, and you should consider a comfortable chair, which would take of less room. By all means the bed should remain on the wall it is currently located, for this gives the best flow of movement in the room. Finally, if you redesign the hanging/storage of your closet, you may find that this changes the requirements needed for clothing storage in the bedroom. I'm a big fan of 'The Container Store', for they have closet designers who can create a closet to best suit your needs, and now they also have designers for over all help in your home, so you may want to check them out, plus they are having a huge sale on the Elfa Closet System and installation by them as well.

**UPDATE!!!** Well, when I brought the settee home, we put it in our living room, right inside the front door (close to the front window and the fireplace). It's been there ever since while I've been contemplating how to rearrange the bedroom furniture...last night, the Hubby says he actually likes the settee exactly where it is in the living room and would like it to stay there! Mmkay, so I guess I'm still out of a seat for watching TV in the bedroom LOL! Or maybe I'll just have to sit in my vanity chair instead. Anyhoo, it looks like in the end, OPTION #2 is going to be it, allowing our bed to be the focal point in the room. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO OFFERED INCREDIBLY HELPFUL AND USEFUL TIPS!!! They certainly have not gone to waste - you never know, I might acquire other seating - and it's also helped me look at other areas of my home with a fresh perspective!!!
