Cutting plywood in 6" lengths for shiplap look on wall

We want to put plywood (maybe 3/16 or so - the paintable kind) on the wall in 6" wide strips to look like shiplap. I have seen some blogs who say even when Home Depot or Lowe's cuts the plywood for them it come out pretty ragged on edges. I was wondering if priming both sides first would cut down on chipping/shredding edges when we cut. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
