Bold, Bright and Blue - A Nursery Makeover

The nursery is probably the most complete room in our house – meaning it has the least number of unfinished projects. We all have our strengths, and finishing a home diy project is not one of mine.
Here’s what it looked like when we moved in.
This little blue jewel box is now my favorite room in the house. I painted it this beautiful (some may say bold) blue color shortly after we moved in. Long before our daughter arrived on the scene this was our master bedroom.
When I was pregnant the second time around, and we found out we were having a girl, I was so excited to make these blue walls work for a baby girl’s room.
The first thing I did was to paint the ceiling a very light shade of pink.
I created a little shelf out of a piece of who-knows-what that I found in the “As Is” section of Ikea and a couple garage sale brackets ($5.50 total). The shelf is the same finish as our Hemnes dresser. Lily wears cloth diapers about 80 percent of the time, so the white plastic hamper is for dirty diapers, not to be confused with the large wicker basket on the floor that holds the dirty clothes.
This room also does double-duty by serving as a guest room when needed. A pull-out couch fits snugly into the closet nook. I removed the (annoying) sliding doors and painted the ugly fake wood paneling a nice crisp white.
Oh, and Bruiser likes to lounge in here occasionally too. Speaking of cozy spots to rest … the glider … well, it’s not the prettiest, but it’s dang comfortable and it has been this nursing Mama’s best friend.

Down the road I would love to pull up the carpets in here and refinish the wood floors underneath, but I’ve got about five other unfinished projects that I should probably finish first. Hope you enjoyed touring our nursery. For more room tours and decor project, please visit my blog (http://realhappyspace.com).

You made a beautiful room for your little girl but the most beautiful and wonderful thing you did for her was to use the cloth diapers to preserve the earth for her future. Thank you for caring.
