Use up Your Scrap Wood and Make a Hanging Hexagon Planter!

I had a lonely corner in my room that needed some lovin' and didn't really want to spend money to make it pretty. I wanted some type of hanging planter there and knew I could come up with something using my scrap wood. I ended up grabbing a piece 3/4 plywood and decided to cut it into a fun shape to make my planter. I love how it turned out and it looks great in my bedroom corner!
I used a cut out hexagon shape projected it onto my scrap wood with an overhead projector and then traced it by hand. You could easily make the shape by measuring and marking it onto the wood.
Then I used my jigsaw to cut my shape out of the plywood. It was super cold and my scrolling blade had broken, so It was NOT perfect, but I am good with it. :) I have learned to embrace the perfection in my projects! Ha ha!
I used another scrap piece of 3/4 plywood to make a plant base holder. I found that a quart size paint can lid was the perfect size to hold my planting pot, so I used it to trace the circle I cut out.

I attached the planter base with screws from the side and stained it, then hung it in the corner with a chain! It makes me happy and I can't wait for the plant to grow over the sides! Not bad for an almost free project! I did buy the planter pot at the dollar store for $1. :) Check out my blog post for a full tutorial!
