Interior walls makeover

Question

I am looking for inexpensive ways to make-over the living room, the dining room, and the den. Paint? Wallpaper?  ll walls  are white. I have thought of painting a very light peach trimmed in a rust color or perhaps wall paper. I have not chosen wall paper color/print as yet.

I would consider painting verses wall papering which could eventually get tired looking.Before choosing paint colors take into the consideration of how much light is in the room.

Paint for sure. So much more economical and user friendly. Like the above comments - you can easily change your mind on wallpaper. Then having to remove it would be challenging later on down the road. Also like above - to add color, etc you can do a printed window treatments. Best of luck!

the best idea anyone gave me for painting/ wall papering was to find the biggest pieces of poster /foam cor boards i could get, splurge on tester paint -2 0z usually. cover the boards with the paint color i liked the most. then take it to the room you would use that color. keep it up on a wall....and see what the different types of lights do with it. daylight, light bulbs candles all have a different way of affecting color.

i would stencil a wallpaper design - much easier to paint than paper!

Along the same lines as @MN Mom said, I would start with window treatments, a big piece of art, or a rug in a pattern that you love. From there, I would choose paint colours from the pattern--that way you already know they will coordinate, and use them in the different rooms. That gives you a chance to showcase a different wall colour in each of the rooms while tying them all in together. You can then add small accessories in another room's colour.

As everyone chimed in - painting is best because it is easier to paint a room over than it is to put up wallpaper or take it down when you tire of it. Painting one room a 'color' is better than doing each room in a color because you want the eye to flow from room to room and use accessories and artwork to bring in color to rooms. I get 4-6 color cards of each color I am looking at and tape them to each wall in the room. I let them stay there a day so I can see what the colors look like- morning, noon, and night. Painting a neutral color such as beige, gray, or even a taupe will also change the feel of your home. There are so many colors to choose from and I personally use Behr paint and if you are on a budget Behr 300i is a contractor grade eggshell paint that I found went on great and I did my son's room in a beautiful blue (you can check my blog for the pictures). The same color can look different in sun. Eggshell hides many flaws and Satin gives a bit of a sheen. Semi gloss is usually for bathrooms and will show flaws. One of my favorite colors to use when I am renovating a house for sale or rent is Oatland Subtle Taupe which is actually a Valspar color. It is a bit darker and looks great against white trim. From a FengShui perspective, peach is a color not to use in bedrooms. Trim (and this is for resale value) should be left in wood or painted white because painted trim is something that is very specific. Painting your walls in a neutral color really gives you more impact especially if you have colorful artwork or pictures. Plus when you tire of blue pillows you can change to red and not worry about the walls. Good luck and have fun
