Need DIY Headboard idea...

I have a King-sized bed in front of a 4x4-foot window (no where else it can be and want to keep the window) and I don't want to totally block off the window light, but I want privacy and some sort of head board to keep the pillows on the bed too. Any creative way to do this? I've thought and thought and nothing comes to mind.

I would change curtains to blinds (web-like, not slats) to allow filtered light to shine through. I know Lowes carries them; some are insulated, i think. Lots of different colors too. Or, you could change your headboard or use your window as your headboard. Hope this gives you some ideas to go with.....

Try a wrought iron fence type headboard or make one out of thin strips of wood glued and nailed to a frame.

I would use some light linen curtains on the window so there's privacy, but they still allow light. Pull headboard away from window enough that the curtains can be opened and closed and use a vintage-y rod iron headboard which will serve your purpose inside and also look pretty from the outside.

My suggestion is simple. Extend the rod for your draperies to at least the width of the bed...a little more would be better. This trick gives the illusion of a larger window with drapes than are only open "so much". Then you can put in a nice open metalwork headboard...keep the bed out away from the drapes a bit so they can open and close with ease. The drapes are a great back drop to the head board--not hidden way and it will appear lighter in the room

I didn't think of extending, but I could easily. And I wonder where to find an inexpensive iron head-board? That is what I'd love to do!

Carol....just a little thought. If you have a Value City Furniture near to you they often carry headboards @ about $199 and under. Also, I know someone who went to a Big Lot store and bought the whole bed for about $99! she brought the item to me...I used a texture paint as a base and then painted it with a Rustoleum product that had some texture to it...like a dark bronze...it turned out better than even I thought it would! As I always say "Paint Is Your Friend"!!

I agree with Sia about checking with Habitat for a headboard. They also sell louver doors that can be cut to size, attached side by side to desired width, then painted white. Or pick up an old brass frame and spray it white. Your choices are endless!
