Fabric Covered Vanity

Often I am bad at remembering to take before photos.
This small vanity was worn and dated so, I decided to give it a facelift after pricing new vanities and actually found this one to still be in stock. It was less than $80.00 at the DIY home center. I had been wanting to cover a piece of furniture with fabric and decided I'd do this little jobby. It didn't take much. Spray adhesive (there are many different brands available and Elmers I have found to be orderless), fabric, new knobs, and a plastic ceiling tile sheet.
Project cost $24.00 to complete
I sprayed the area to be covered with spray adhesive, pressed the fabric to the cabinet after I straightened the pattern, and cut the excess material away using a good pair of tailor shears. (Only use on fabrics!! Anything else will ruin your shears!) Good clean cuts...The material can be repositioned making the pattern easy to work with before pressing it onto the cabinet. Do this all over the areas to be covered. Spray extra glue where needed to adhere the fabric. Once it is pressed onto the cabinet the glue will absorb to the fabric pretty quick. That will be the point of no return!!
The doors were beaten and stained.
I glued the extra panels left from making the back splash into the door groove cutouts. The backsplash is a plastic ceiling sheet that looks like metal. Hardware stores and DIY home centers carry it in all colors, patterns, and lengths. Easy to cut and glue. I measured the space in the door panels, trimmed to fit, and glued it in place. (Liquid nail!). I changed the facett earlier so I went with chrome knobs. But notice I mixed the metals. I don't think there is any etiquette or rules that apply any longer since style is now more of personal choice than what is trendy. As for me, it has always been my way of life...

Hello, Michelle. First, what a gorgeous idea I must say and will be proudly stealing it, lol. My question is how do you know how to keep the fabric clean if it is used in a bathroom or kitchen with water and steam being produced??? Thanks again for such a lovely and affordable and beautifully original idea.

just what i was looking for. I have an oak vanity and towel cabinet with the veneer peeling on the side that will show, that we are putting in our (other than that) brand new bathroom. This will work perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this.
