Rustic Rainbow Jewelry Chest

I found an old jewelry chest tucked away in a closet during a recent purge. I almost got rid of it, but realized it would be the perfect piece to store the girls' dress-up accessories. We're huge fans of rainbows in this house, so it didn't take long to decide on a colorful approach.
As you can see, the jewelry chest wasn't much of anything when I pulled it out. I honestly don't remember where it even came from!
I used an assortment of DecoArt's Chalky Finish paints to create my rainbow.
I painted a couple of coats over everything. The biggest issue was needing so many brushes. I know I could have cleaned between each color, but I needed to paint such a small bit that I would have spent all my time cleaning. You can see the difference between the first and second coats.
I put a bit of dark wax on top, buffed it up, and put the jewelry chest back together.
My girls love their new piece and I'm not stepping on tiaras anymore. Not bad for a piece of furniture that was about to get tossed!

Sandra Crosbie on Feb 29, 2016That is a beautiful chest. The girls could use it forever. Changing it to a makeup chest when they are older. Great job.
