Brad nailer

I need to buy my husband a brad nailer so he can finish the trim in our house. I'm pretty sure I want to get the Senco Fusion, but not sure on the brad size. What is best for average use- 15, 16 or 18 guage? It seems like 16 as it is the middle?

  • Brad nail guns are used for fine trim work such as cabinet door trims. If your thinking about doing door, window and floor types of trims, you need to get a finish nail gun, not brad type. Something that shoots 1/14 to 2 1/4 lengths. Senco makes good ones, However you need to check around for suppliers that handle the nails. Not all stores handle the Senco brand. Even though there are some standards on nail sizes so most nails fit most guns, some do not.

Celeste...my first "trim" nail gun was a 16 ga porter cable...this gun can handle door and window case with ease. For bigger uses I later picked up a 15 ga senco...this one is used less frequently for setting widows and some interior doors + heavy trim. For light weight trim and detail work I have an 18 ga Dewalt. I use this one a lot for fine shoe mold and smaller corner mold. By far the "work horse" in my arsenal is the 16 ga porter cable. Nails for this are widely available and not too pricey.

I decided to buy the 16 ga angled Senco Fusion. Neat tool - we will see how a cordless, no fuel cell, nailer works.

not having to tote a compressor around sounds great...let us know how it does. 4 large for a nail gun is big investment...If i remember right my 16 gauge was about 150.

I have a deal with my husband. He does the work if I buy him the tool. I still save lots of money over hiring the work out, and I get a happier marriage in the bargain (which is priceless) :)
