This is a big 25 gallon pot. We added a rim and some color to match the trim on our house. I LOVE how this came out!

Cut the boards to length. Slide them under the rim and use a nailer, stapler or construction adhesive to attach. Place them closer together at the bottom than the top for tapered pots.

Do you know if they sell the tree pots at the big box stores?

I’ve seen them at Home Depot but if you have a nursery near your home I would go there first. Some will sell them or even give them away!

How do you attach the boards at the bottom?

You can also get a wire ring and put it around the planter after the wood's been added.

I've seen those made. They're pretty cool. After awhile the plastic breaks off but the wood with the ring remains.

If you nail them wont they leak when watering and encourage degrading of the wood over time. Wonder if gorilla glue would work???

We used slim brads, nails with minimal heads. I have not noticed any leakage around the nails using these planters and we have about a dozen we've made several years ago. The wood has not appreciably degraded but replacing individual boards is very easy. We have not tried any kind of adhesive on this project tho many people have wondered if it would be an improvement. I suggest you set up a test pot. Remember most adhesives require an overnight curing period before moving or using the pot. Good luck!

Great job!! I give my pallets back to the drivers after a delivery but I’m gonna keep a few for this planter hack. Thanks for the idea.
