Styrofoam Cornice Board Out of Tv Packaging :) #30dayflip

Hi, for our for February it is a No Sew challenge for $20 or less. I know a lot of people have seen the Styrofoam cornice boards on pinterest. They are easy to make and bring instant interest and detail to a room.
The dreaded before picture. When we bought our house last May, the curtains were left, which we appreciated, but this one in the guest room had absolutely no "pop".
I love color and since this is in the guest room/ my craft room I wanted some color :) And yellow and gray together are so pretty!
I followed the tutorial from Smashed Peas and Carrots blog (I googled "smashed peas and carrots/ cornice boards). The only thing I changed, was where I got the Styrofoam. My local Lowes did not have the Styrofoam, so I improvised. I saved the large pieces of Styrofoam from our TV when we bought it, to use to paint on top of. So I cut it to size and fit my yard of fabric over it (which I bought with a 50% off coupon).
So I was able to make my Cornice Board for $4!!!!! And I have enough fabric left to make 2 pillow case fronts for the bed to tie it all in :) I love when you can be resourceful and use what you have. So next time you order something with a large piece of Styrofoam save it and make yourself a light easy to hang and easy to change the fabric cornice board :)

Ck. out my page on Facebook for more transformations.

I'm thinking of doing this in my bedroom. How did you hang the cornice? Thanks!

Thank You SO much for posting this! My family thought I was a lil bit nuts for saving my TV styrofoam & extra large cardboard box. Granted it's been a year that it's been stored but who's the clever one now ;) Also, I was just recently given STACKS of fabric so I can pretty much make a couple cornices for free! Can't beat that!! I was just needing an inspirational push in the right direction :) You & your pretty cornices have made my day :)

Aww :) Thank you so much Amanda! That comment made my day! My hubby thought I was crazy for keeping ours too! But $4 for something that looks like it could have cost MUCH more, haha jokes on him ;) I love reusing items and this just happened to work out perfect. Please post a pic on here when you finish them.

I used foam core from the hobby store for mine. This is the 5th one I have made. As you can see, I made a double layer so I could have the added look of a solid color along the curved edges.
