Giving New Life to an Old Trunk

This tired old trunk was sitting in my shop, completely ignored by all who passed by. Structurally it was in great shape, but visually it was quite dull. I took it home, unsure what to do with it, until my husband did this....
Tired and ignored
We had some old table legs laying around, so my husband decided to add them to the bottom of the trunk.
Then I got to work transforming the exterior of the trunk using Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paints & Finishes in Bisque and Tanner Brown. Before starting, I washed the trunk down with a water/vinegar mix. No other prep required; so quick and easy!
The once pretty paper on the inside was starting to peel, and didn't look quite as pretty anymore. I took an old book I had in my stockpiles and started ripping out pages!
With a little modge podge and some planning, the interior was completely transformed to compliment the exterior. I sealed the entire interior with Sable Glaze by Kristi Kuehl's Pure Home Paints & Finishes. The glaze gave the pages a wonderful aged look!
I distressed the exterior hardware and then sealed the entire exterior, again with Sable Glaze, to age the piece. The darker brown trim was darkened even further using Chestnut Stain by Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paints. And, finally, the top received an additional coat of protection using a clear Satin Protective Finish...of course, from Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paints & Finishes!
The end result? This once unnoticed old trunk is now a handsome and functional addition to any room!

I have 3 of my father's old WWII Army trunks that I want to refinish. This is so nice. I think I'll reinforce the tops from the inside in case grandkids sit on them. Thanks for the pretty ideas.
