Recycle a Birdhouse Into a Planter or Flower Vase

Spring will soon be here, and I could wait to put some pretty African violets in my front windows. And what better way to show off some spring blooms than by transforming a birdhouse into a planter or flower vase!
I must admit that I'm not great at keeping houseplants alive, so I hope that creating a pretty planter might distract from my withering blooms :( I loved the idea of using a birdhouse as the base for my planter or flower vase because it offered so many opportunities to add details and decoration to my flower container.
There are a few ways to start building a birdhouse planter or flower vase:

1. You can buy a pre-made birdhouse and remove the top

2. You can build your own birdhouse and leave off the roof

3. Or you can craft a birdhouse out of household materials

I made my birdhouse out of a jug and some paint stir sticks. I have all the directions for making your own birdhouse on my blog HERE!
I knew I wanted to add this cute little clay bird to my planter. You can find a tutorial for making these birds on my blog too.

Once your birdhouse is decorated and complete, you can use it as either a planter or flower vase for cut flowers. All of the necessary steps are on my blog post.

Oh, and please help: I'd love to hear any suggestions for keeping my African violet plant alive too!
