Do You Have to Know What You're Doing to Plant a Vegetable Garden?

We're not really sure, but that's not stopping us from starting!
Because we don't know much, we're starting small--our goal is to grow the ingredients for homemade tomato sauce. We've made a bed, we've prepared our soil, and we've put some starts and seeds in the ground. If there's anything we don't know that you're sure we need to know, we'd love to hear from you!
This is where we are now.
This is where we are now.
We started with these big, boxy hedges...

After tearing out the hedges, we built some planter boxes.

We consulted with our local nursery, who advised us to amend our soil with compost and minerals with trace elements.

And now we're hoping it all grows!

I have been vegetable gardening for years and this year is a really different challenge with "Jack Rabbit." Tomatoes, squash, radishes, peas, pumpkins are growing well. But, the ol rabbit is a real trickster. Have seen him a few times, but he hit the rows of string beans, bush, stem, everything. I replanted new seeds and also watched these plants start; applied red hot, chopped, dried pepper around the plants, deer and rabbit repellant, grew some basil, and now resorted to cutting my hair and even the Himalayan kitty, and gently laid the hair and fur in that garden around the beans. Even laid down left over fur from older furs, such as mink fur. Made teddy bears from these coats. The beans are still standing! We will see now.
