Using regular spray paint on outdoor fabric cushions

UPDATE: I did use Rustoleum spray paint. It worked well enough to use the cushions (I hope) for at least another couple of seasons. Thank you for responding. (This post has been unsubscribed to.)

I got this set used and had to make new covers for the cushions.  I thought using this sort of 'rubberized' fabric would be great. It wasn't :-(  It's very faded and stained I'd like to update.  You can't see it on the photo. ;-)  I'm thinking of making new covers but it's going to be pricey even with outdoor fabric on sale!  Soo....
Have any of you used spray paint for this purpose (not the kind specifically made for fabric)? If so, what's your review?

I would recommend rustoleums 2x ultra cover for the cushions. They may be a little stiff at first but I believe it will work and be a lot less expensive.

I used spray paint to cover the green stripes and changed them to blue. It wasn't perfect but it saved me getting new cushions when all that was wrong was the color. Figure I can get new ones the right color when these ware out. No special kind, just the same color as my front door.

I agree that the Krylon would be your best bet, if you don't want to try chalk painting them.

You can make any paint into fabric paint (not spray paint of course) by mixing it with fabric medium, available at any craft store (or online). I know Martha Stewart makes one, and I believe the Aleen brand also.

Instead of paint, I found some fabric shower curtains I liked for under $10 each (Ross) and made simple pillow-case style cushion covers. They hold up very well outdoors and wash beautifully. Just another option.

I would add this to any color you add to the cushions. I have use some of this brand the kind for leather and it works well. My husband said it the best I do know you have to reply each year but not to expensive to do that though. Connie...please let me know what you do...we have cushions in this house we just bought that need help!   By the way..is this your fence? Have you seen the fences with half marble gems glued on? Or the fence with pieces of mirror glued on into a mosaic? This new to us house has grey cinder blocks off the patio. So have to do something to jazz it up once momma hummingbird is done raising her brood.  Let me know what you do.

You can get spray on  chalk paint that should work. I don't remember the brand, but the local Ace Hardware carries it. I'm sure there is more than one kind on the market.

I have spray painted tufted chairs - it worked well, but they were firmly stuffed and so there was little give to the fabric. I worked in light layers; I think you might get into cracking if there is heavier layers covering overall and there is give to the fabric when you sit down. It's worth a try - perhaps experiment with plastic coating vs. other types of spray.

I was changing my backyard with hot color accents.  I sprayed my chaise cushions with one color and splashes of the other colors.  They look like I bought them to match.  This is the 2nd summer and they look great.

I used cheap walmart spray paint on my outdoor umbrella. Since I don't care if the umbrella is soft or not it worked fine. Did take nearly 5 cans of paint but a 96 cents a can i can live with that.
