Zippers Galore

Question

I acquired a huge basket of vintage sewing supplies. I love all my new goodies, however I have yet to find a use for approximately 40 different size and color zippers. Do any of you know crafts or uses for these treasures?

cushions for some furniture perhaps...the zippers allow for easy removal and cleaning of the covers.

Make a cool wall hanging. Sew them on to a piece of plain fabric like muslin or burlap line them up side by side, have some open part way,
 some closed. Short thin ones next to thick long ones. You can even hand sew some on for added texture. Make a stretcher type frame from any scrap wood and staple it on.. This would be a nice addition to a sewing or craft room.

I saw something a few years ago where they took a lot of different colored zippers and sewed them together for a pillow or blanket I can't remember which. Sounds strange but for some reason the project looked neat and has stuck in my mind.

There are tons of zipper crafts on Pinterest, some great bracelets, flower brooches and things like that. Google zipper crafts and see what comes up too. Good luck on your great find.

My students are making flower brooches out of my old metal zipper collection... We are still perfecting them but it has been fun and relatively easy. They come out looking like sunflowers.

look at tote bags.. so many cute Some expandable with the zippers.. there are new techniques for putting them in for exposure.... so simple now.. I also have vintage sewing stuff from my Mom.. not sure what to do with,, mercerized thread, patterns for 29 cents, 19 cent ric rack , with metalic thread in it,, what a treasure..

I seen a pillow made of zippers cut in different sizes and sew together and made into a pillow, it was beautiful.

If you have used all the zippers you can on craft ideas, and still have extras left over, then I would suggest donating them to a local college that offers sewing or fashion design classes. Zippers are expensive to purchase. I'm sure cash-strapped creative students will put them to good use.
