Horchow Inspired DIY Stools!

Create a custom look!
Looking at many high end kitchen photos, as most of us do prior to a reno, I really wanted a custom look for the stools around the kitchen island, BUT being on a tight budget, I couldn't afford them. Originally, when I thought about reupholstering inexpensive stools, I honestly didn't think I could do it. After price shopping and becoming frustrated, I put on my big girl panties and convinced myself, "Yes, I can do this"! My biggest fear was using the staple gun....what if I staple myself? What if I staple a kid? Anything could happen, me being the "nervous nellie" I am. Once I found the stools, ON SALE at Kent, my brilliant and money saving plan came into fruition. Finding the material locally ON SALE, after admiring the same fabric on line used by Horchow was serendipitous!

The stools came dismantled saving me time and energy, although, it's easy enough to unscrew the seats if you are using old stools. Second, using a screw driver to pull out the staples, I removed the backing and then the fabric. Some tugging and a few broken finger nails later, I set the backing aside and used the existing ugly faux leather as a pattern for my material. Once I had the material cut out, I began by pulling it tightly (starting from the middle) around one side at a time stapling it as I went. It's very important to make sure the gun is flat or the staple will buckle. Corners were tricky, but if the material bulks VERY small cuts can be made to work around them. After all the material was stapled in place and the excess trimmed, I then re-stapled the original backing on. Voila!

Materials Needed;

Staple gun

Staples (make sure they are reupholstery ones, stronger and thicker)

scissors

staple remover or small screw driver

protective eye gear

material for the project, I bought too much, but it's better to have too much than not enough. You can use an online fabric calculator to measure

an allen key to disassemble and reassemble the stools

Time, energy, patience, courage (unless you aren't afraid of the staple gun) and motivation to SAVE money and be creative!
