Re-purposed Mirror

Man,was this thing ugly.....but for one dollar,I saw potential in it to be something else.
First things first, cut off that ugly pink string and take it all apart.

The mirror was held in pace with 6 small clips, all I did was get the screwdriver out and take them off.

I put the mirror aside and gave the whole frame a light sand with some of the hubbys scrap paper he hangs onto for me,and then I pulled out a can of spraypaint I had,and went to town on it.
Here's the front view prior to demolition
Here it is with all the parts removed
Laid out an old sheet on the lawn to do this, wouldn't want to upset the landlord now would we.

It was cold when I tried to paint it,so it took a total of 3 coats all over.
I used this blackboard paint and a foam brush for application.

I did 2 coats of this,to insure a good coverage.
Much sunnier today,so was able to finish it up.

The old string was simply tied on,so I found some old hooks I had, drilled small pilot holes, and twisted them on in.

I ended up using thin sisal string instead of the old pink string that was on it.
After stepping back,I thought it needed something more,so took out a small artists brush and did some detailing on the woven part between the mirror and frame, must say it helped.
Now,since this used to be a mirror and there was no lip to put the chalk on,I grabbed an old can (I always keep them ) painted it in the same blue, allowed it to dry then wound some of that sisal string round it and hot glued it to the corner of the frame.

Now there is a cup for the chalk to go in.

Not sure how long the glue will last,as long as it doesn't get wet or freeze,my guess is quite some time.
Here it is all finished.

For some reason, this picture makes it look lighter than it is,maybe it was the way the sun was,who knows.

I invested one dollar in the mirror, was given the spray paint which BTW is $16 for the cheapest brand not 99 cents like at Walmart, used some left over white paint I had , added a small amount of the string, some old hooks from another project and that was it.

All told, between painting and finishing, maybe 3 hours of work.

I have $40 on it,guess we will see what happens !!!!!
