Another month, another entry to reveal. This month, we were challenged to Mix and Match in this contest by Fairfield World. Fairfield World is an online retailer of batting, interfacing, foam…everything fillers and pillows! They have a great selection of brands and products available.
I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to create some fun, simple seating in our playroom. I wanted to create a floor pouf for each of my kiddos, and then decided to throw in some oversized pillows for floor lounging as well.
I ordered two bags of bean bag filler from Fairfield World, and selected two different prints for the poufs. The best part is that I was able to make each of these poufs with only 1 yard of fabric! I feel like this is quite the accomplishment!
I debated for a long time on what shape to make these poufs- circular, hexagon- but finally settled on square cubes. My fabric was 54 x 36, so I was able to cut it into 6 perfectly equal 18×18 squares. Speaking of fabric, I got these two prints from Spoonflower, and I can’t even explain how amazing they feel. They have lots (and LOTS) of types of fabric, but I picked the Faux Suede, and couldn’t be more happy with my choice.
Whenever I pull out my sewing machine, I say a little silent prayer because I never know quite how it will go. We have a rocky relationship at times, but things went really great for this project. I sewed four squares together to create a long strip first (back to back, of course).
Then, I sewed the remaining two squares on either side of the second square in the strip (basically, I created a big, fabric T).

At this point, I was able to sew corresponding edges together until my pouf was taking shape. I kept going until I only had one side open, and flipped it right side out.

I was really nervous about filling the pouf. I’m pretty sure I had nightmares about those little, staticky beans taking over my house. I read the directions on the bag carefully, and tried to follow them as perfectly as I could. They recommended to sit the bag on a table above the pouf and let gravity do it’s thing.
I used the entire bag of bean bag filler for the one pouf, and even had to improvise by adding an old pillow form to fill the remainder of the pouf. The mess was minimal, and I quickly sewed up the remaining side before any of those little beans could escape.
One pouf down, one to go. I repeated the process with my second fabric (still amazed I was able to do these with ONE YARD of fabric each!) This is the same Faux Suede fabric, in a sweet print for my sweet girl.
Here is the final product. I have two happy little ones with great new seating for reading books, playing games, working on puzzles, and playing Sonic on the Playstation!

You say these are for your children. Are they large enough for adults?
